Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov is one of the world’s most financially successful esports gamers, having amassed career prize winnings of $5.9 million.

The 23-year-old Russian, who plays for Team Spirit, is already a two-time winner of The International, Dota 2‘s premier esports tournament.

But the offlaner, who has been actively competing in esports for eight years, remains just as focused on winning titles.

In our analysis, we examine Collapse’s early life in Dagestan, how he earns his money, and what he spends it on.

Collapse, real name Magomed Khalilov, is a 23-year-old professional gamer born in Makhachkala, the capital of the Republic of Dagestan, Russia.

He is best known for being part of Team Spirit’s Dota 2 roster, where he has twice won The International, the game’s most prestigious tournament.

We have largely based our estimate of Collapse’s net worth on the prize winnings from his appearance in Dota 2 tournaments.

According to Esports Earnings, he has made an impressive $5.94 million, putting him in sixth place on the list of highest esports earners.

Collapse’s main source of income has been the $5.94 million prize winnings from 63 tournaments during his career.

Obviously, the amount he has earned in calendar years has depended on the number of events entered and the team’s success.

For example, his most lucrative year was 2021, when he earned almost $3.7 million, largely from Team Spirit’s victory at The International.

His second win at this event came in 2023, earning him $1.3 million that year. However, he has made six-figure sums in 2022, 2024, and 2025.

Collapse is also expected to receive a salary for being part of Team Spirit, the Russian esports organisation he joined in 2020, although actual figures aren’t published.

According to a report from the Influencer Marketing Hub, top esports players can earn up to $187,200 per year.

Collapse doesn’t appear to have any personal sponsorship deals in place, although Team Spirit has entered into agreements with several organisations.

It’s possible that individual team members may benefit from these deals, although this will depend on the terms of their contracts.

Currently, the team has seven partners, which include various esports-related brands, according to its official website, 

These include a long-term arrangement with BetBoom, a betting company, that was announced in April 2024. 

Other partners include the streaming platform Okko, the cryptocurrency exchange and trading platform EXMO, and the esports gear brand Zowie. 

Collapse doesn’t appear to have any business ventures alongside his duties as part of Team Spirit’s Dota 2 roster.

While he may have investments, they haven’t been mentioned in interviews, and there’s no public record. 

Collapse was born in Makhachkala, the capital of the Republic of Dagestan, Russia, on February 25, 2002.

According to Liquipedia, he started playing Dota 2 at the age of 13 and, a couple of years later, began treating it more professionally.

A significant portion of his free time was apparently spent playing this game, which caused problems with his parents as he was playing in PC cafes while still attending school.

In an interview with Team Spirit in October 2022, he explained that there were many people eager to play Dota in his home country.

Collapse also explained that he had trained in hand-to-hand combat and Judo in his early years, as well as learning Lezginka, a traditional folk dance.

As a teenager, Collapse initially formed an amateur team with his friends that enabled him to compete in smaller commercial tournaments, as well as the Russian Esports Cup.

He has also spoken in interviews about how his doctor father wanted him to follow in his footsteps and enter the medical profession.

However, Dmitry “Korb3n” Belov, the founder of Yellow Submarine and subsequent manager of Team Spirit, is credited with helping to change his mind.

Collapse recalled how his father doubted whether he could travel and make money by playing computer games.

“Korb3n allowed me to invite my dad to Moscow for a meeting so that he could see how it all works and could ask all the questions. They managed to convince (him) that it was a big deal; they explained to him how it all works, that it’s a professional career, and that I have some prospects and a talent for it.”

It proved to be a great move all round as Collapse has enjoyed a phenomenally successful five years with Team Spirit and tasted victory many times.

Major victories have included The International in 2021 and 2023, the Riyadh Masters 2023, and the Esports World Cup 2025.

Despite the initial (understandable) anxiety about Collapse choosing esports over a medical career, they have been his biggest cheerleaders in the years since.

Their reaction to his first TI victory in 2021 is a prime example.

“My friends and parents greeted me with honour,” he recalled. 

He is not very active on social media platforms. Although he has 24,700 followers on X (formerly Twitter), he has posted only a handful of times over the past year.

Therefore, not much is known about how he spends his time or money, apart from a few insights he’s shared in interviews. 

For example, he spoke in the interview with Team Spirit about the importance of helping his parents financially.

“Even before TI and the Major, after I had already started getting my first salary, I tried to help and was sending them some money that they needed,” he explained.

In a separate interview after winning his first TI in 2021, Collapse admitted he didn’t know how to spend his earnings.

“I don’t know. I have everything I need, I don’t need anything yet,” he was quoted as saying.

While it’s certainly possible, it’s unknown whether Collapse has any favoured charities or gets involved in philanthropy of any kind. 

More broadly, however, Team Spirit has supported various causes over the years, some of which have been publicised on social media channels.

For example, it announced that the prize money won at the Gamers Galaxy: Invitational Series Dubai 2022 would be donated to the International Red Cross Movement.

Professional Dota 2 players occupy the top 22 places on the list of highest earners, as many of this game’s tournaments offer large prize pools.

Collapse has earned $5.94 million, and this puts him in sixth place overall, just behind Sébastien ‘Ceb’ Debs.

Although he’s still more than $1 million behind Johan ‘N0tail’ Sundstein’s $7.2 million fortune, the fact that Collapse is still playing means he has the opportunity to close the gap.

As far as Russian Federation players are concerned, Collapse is the second-highest earner, only trailing Yaroslav “Miposhka” Naidenov, who has made $6.2 million.

When you consider that Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov has already won 20 tournaments, including the prestigious TI twice, it’s hard to believe he’s still just 23 years old.

The Dota 2 superstar has enjoyed a phenomenally successful career, as evidenced by the $5.9 million in prize winnings already amassed.

The question is how much he will make before retiring from competitive esports? If he carries on at the same impressive pace, then he may still make it to the coveted number one spot.
