PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2025 preview

The PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) for 2025 is almost here, and there’s plenty to look forward to. Organised by KRAFTON/PUBG Studios and Tencent Games, it was first established in 2020 as a way of showcasing the final matches of the PUBG Mobile season, a free-to-play title that first came out in 2017.

The prize pool for last year’s championship was set at $4 million, with esports group The Expendables winning much of it. This year, organisers have set the prize pool at $3 million, which will run from November 24 until December 14. There has also been the recently released PUBG Mobile 4.1 update, which will impact gameplay and provide fans with more ways to engage with the event. To help, we’re laying out below what the Championship consists of and how it will be organised.

The PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2025 will take place in Thailand this year, running from November 24 to December 14, with 39 teams participating. The tournament will feature regional and tiered qualification rounds, following a points-based system. The Gauntlet, a preliminary phase that takes place between November 24 and November 26, consists of 15 squads from each regional tournament in an 18-match mini-event.

The top seven teams advance to the Grand Finals, while the remaining squads are moved to the Group Stage. This runs from November 28 to November 30, followed by December 2, and then ends on December 4. There’s also a Last Chance Stage from December 6 to December 7, which solidifies the last of the squads for the Grand Finals. This method works well because it rewards some PUBG Mobile teams with direct progression, but also gives a second chance to others. This gives the viewership something to watch unfold, which could bring some unpredictable results or could give others a chance to catch up on teams they may have missed.

The PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2025 consists of a four-stage structure that’s meant to help balance the teams taking part, but also keep viewers engaged throughout the three-week period. The four stages are:

The first stage, The Gauntlet, runs from November 24 to 26, where 18 matches are held throughout. A total of 16 teams compete in regional qualification tournaments. The top seven teams that win go to the Grand Finals, while the remaining squads move to the Group Stages.

The Group Stage, held twice on November 28-30 and December 2-4, sorts several teams into standings that will determine who advances to the Last Chance stage, held on December 6-7, or the Grand Finals on December 8-14.

This layout provides players with a range of opportunities from the start of the PMGC, offering immediate rewards for some, such as reaching the Grand Finals, while also giving others a chance to compete through the Group and Last Chance rounds.

When it comes to the prize pool, the organisers have lowered it from $4 million last year to $3 million for PMGC 2025.
