TL;DR

  • Battlefield 6 Season 2 will likely arrive in January, although the start date remains unknown.
  • BF6 Season 2 may focus on another country from the BF6 Campaign mode, moving away from North America.
  • A data-mined leak suggests that the Little Bird helicopter could arrive for BF6 Season 2.
  • No new maps or modes have been rumoured for Season 2 as yet.

Battlefield 6 is already the most successful Battlefield entry ever, and in that respect, it’s a winning release. Whether or not it has quite met the heights for gamers (or EA) is another thing. However, the Battlefield devs are committed to rolling out regular seasons for the title, and that is something to be grateful for.

Battlefield 6 Season 1 will round out the year with its “Winter Offensive” update on December 9. But what’s coming further into the future? More importantly, what’s coming for BF6 with Season 2? We’ll dive into as much as possible below and throw in our own New Year hopes for a live service title that should just be getting warmed up.

Battlefield Season 1 recap

BF6 is the best-selling game of 2025, and it’s done fairly well in its first season, all things considered. Granted, the BF 2042 bar was low, but there are standout wins for BF6. RedSec is genuinely fun, player counts (Steam only) have yet to dip below 200,000, and there’s largely enough here for new and old BF fans to enjoy. The paid Battle Pass? A miss.

Battlefield 6 isn’t quite the BF3/BF4 of nostalgia-laden memories, but it’s the best BF game in years, and does a good job at bringing a lot of FPS and CoD fans into the fold. A quick comparison of player counts proves that its ‘rival’ Black Ops 7 needs some time off from the annual churn. But EA certainly isn’t releasing a new Battlefield in 2026, so devs can lock in.

That means there’s time to work with the data. Perhaps the devs can tweak some of those existing game modes. More likely, they can add new maps, new weapons, and explore new dynamics for explosive warfare. The biggest miss so far? Large chaotic warfare in Battlefield 6 just isn’t big at all. On to BF6 Season 2 then.

Battlefield Season 2: Rumours and speculation

Rumours suggest Season 2 will add the Little Bird / Image credit: EA

Nothing official has yet been confirmed for BF6 Season 2. However, we assume it will kick off in January. Season 1’s phases were released three weeks apart, but with the Holidays, we’d expect that plus a bit longer for the new season. Therefore, while pure speculation, Jan 13 or 20 seems possible for the Battlefield 6 Season 2 release date.

When it does arrive, rumours suggest that the focus will shift away from California and North America to another nation. Moving to another of the Campaign’s focus countries makes complete sense, and although Dice teased naval warfare days before BF6’s release, Season 2 may not be that. BF6 S2 is rumoured to be getting an aerial vehicle in the AH-6 Little Bird.

That rumour comes amid Battlefield 6 season 2 leaks, via renowned data-miner and leaker Temporyal. If the Little Bird is returning in S2, Egypt or Tajikistan seems a decent fit for the next season; Gibraltar lends itself more to naval-focused combat. The Little Bird is a firm favourite of old-school BF fans, though, and its rumoured loadout includes:

Primary

  • Minigun
  • GAU-19
  • LR30

Secondary

  • APKWS
  • Hellfire
  • Hydra 70
  • Stinger

Equipment

  • Flares
  • Motion Sensor
  • Thermal Smoke

Temporyal’s leak may also point towards some Battlefield 6 season 2 weapons and gadgets. The post lists the following items from the data mine, although these may be new weapons and gadgets arriving at any point across Season 2 and Season 3. Naturally, we’ll have to wait for official information before we know for sure.

Primary

  • MG5
  • BREN 2
  • Scorpion Evo 3

Secondary

  • Škorpion vz. 61 may arrive for Season 2 or 3.

Gadgets

  • Sich G1 Frag (Airburst – grenade launcher)
  • GL40 STKY (Sticky – grenade launcher)
  • M320A1 AT (Anti-vehicle – grenade launcher)
  • RG0 (Impact grenade)

Battlefield 6 Season 2: What we want to see

The above leaks and additions like these are fine, of course. We’d love to see the return of the Little Bird, and a genuine variety of weapons and gadgets is never bad in an FPS. Ultimately, we’re happy to see all of the above on one condition: more scale. It’s a drum this writer keeps banging, but Battlefield 6 could be even better than it is.

BF6’s Season 1 missteps, particularly with California Resistance, included an urgent lack of large-scale warfare. Now, since BF6 has decisively beaten Black Ops 7 (200K vs 55K players on Steam at the time of writing), hopefully things can change. BF6 needn’t focus on small modes and maps, but on redefining what it does best with large chaos.

That means we want big Battlefield 6 season 2 maps, sprawling warfare, and vehicle-friendly modes where chaos can reign. Honestly, this writer would love to see the return of progressive Rush maps with vehicles, but that may be optimistic. So a Season catered towards the large, where Season 1 catered more to the compact, would be a welcome pivot.

Conclusion

Although we don’t yet know exactly when or with what content Battlefield 6 Season 2 will arrive, it is coming, and likely in January. After a decent enough Season 1 that skewed towards smaller-scale combat, aside from RedSec, BF6 feels ready to add more size. Whether or not it will, we’ll just have to wait and see.

What does seem assured is more vehicles, more guns, more gadgets, and a new focus on a new part of the world where the Campaign’s missions played out. That will add more variety for fans, but we’ll keep an eye on player counts that ultimately reflect gamer sentiment. We’re sure the devs will be doing the same, hopefully with a few tricks up their sleeves.
