EWCF launches $20m Esports Nations Cup Development Fund

The Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF) has launched the Esports Nations Cup Development Fund, aiming to support the growth of national teams.

The development fund will commit at least $20m (~£14.8m) annually, covering logistics and promotional events to build awareness around national esports teams.

In addition to this, the fund will also cover travel for teams competing in the inaugural Esports Nations Cup, alongside supporting the use of bootcamps.

Besides this, the EWCF has opened applications for countries interested in competing to become National Team Partners. Selected nations will be responsible for establishing their teams’ identities through marketing and community engagement efforts to build a national fandom.

“The purpose of the Esports World Cup Foundation is to elevate esports and make it sustainable,” said Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports World Cup Foundation. “By opening this application process, we are inviting trusted National Team Partners to help define the framework for how countries and territories are represented in esports with clear roles, aligned governance, and a system that works for players, game partners, and fans alike.”

Applications to become a National Partner Team will close on January 31st. Each submission will be evaluated based on its standing within the esports ecosystem, community reach, and capability to operate a national team. The first wave of confirmed partners will be revealed in early 2026.

Alongside the application process, the ENC has unveiled its 2026 roadmap. Further details surrounding the titles and their respective formats will be shared later this month and into February, with qualifiers set to begin in June.

The announcement of the development fund, along with National Team Partners applications, are the latest initiatives for the 2026 Esports Nations Cup. On January 6th, the EWCF also shared initial details regarding the event’s format and qualification process, which is scheduled to take place this November.

With applications now open for prospective nations, the fund provides plenty of incentives for those wanting to build a sustainable national esports team.
