Argentinian esports tournament organiser FiReSPORTS has officially announced it will host a Counter-Strike 2 Major in 2027.
The tournament organiser also confirmed that the crowning event for the Counter-Strike 2 esports circuit will take place in Buenos Aires.
Following a report from Counter-Strike esports publication HLTV, FiReSPORTS officially confirmed it will host a Major on January 18th, 2027. The confirmation makes Argentina the 14th country to host a Major, and it is the first time in five years that one will take place in South America.
The last Major to take place in South America was IEM Rio 2022 hosted by ESL. For 2026, the tournament organiser returns to Major hosting duties at IEM Cologne 2026, taking place from June 2nd to 21st.
“In the land of Messi and Maradona, the passion for Counter-Strike is as powerful as for football,” said the tournament organiser on social media. “We are going to give it our all to make this a great Major.”
Hosting a Major is a significant step for FiReSPORTS, marking the first time the organiser has operated a high-profile international tournament. Since 2020, it has hosted a range of regional tournaments. In May 2025, the organiser caught the attention of the community by hosting a LAN event within an active subway station.
Community Reaction

Other members of the community have shared their excitement about an Argentinian Major, showcasing the country’s passion for Valve’s first-person shooter title. “The world is finally going to find out the passion we feel for this,” said Argentine esports commentator Efe Gonzalez.
Despite the limited experience in hosting large-scale esports events, FiReSPORTS has already demonstrated its ability to create unique experiences capable of capturing the imagination of fans across the globe. It will be interesting to see what it has in store for Counter-Strike’s biggest event.
