Electronic Arts (EA) has revealed the most popular weapons used, based on kill count, during the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) Year 5 Championships.
Out of the 29 weapons in Apex Legends, 10 guns became a regular pick-up for the game’s season-ending spectacle.
According to EA, the most used weapon during the ALGS Year 5 Championship in Sapporo, Japan was the R-99 SMG with 1007 kills in total. This is not surprising as the SMG has been a staple in the game, and has consistently been a top performer since the battle royale launched back in 2019.
The second most popular weapon was the G7 Scout marksman rifle with 494 kills. Players would often use the G7 Scout to crack enemy shields from a distance and then close in to eliminate opponents using shotguns and SMGs.
The Alternator SMG was the third most used gun in the championship with 377 kills. Previously an unpopular choice in Season 26, it has risen as a meta pick in 2026 thanks to recent buffs to damage, mag-size, and the addition of the double-tap hop-up.
Weapons That Stood Out and Guns That Were Underused
Other popular weapons included the Triple-Take sniper (fourth) with 266 kills, the powerful RE-45 auto pistols (fifth) at 231 kills, and the reliable Volt SMG (sixth) with 190 kills.
Surprisingly, the seventh most popular choice for pros was not a gun but the Frag Grenade, the only ordnance in the top 10 list with 142 kills. Ordnance was just as crucial in this year’s championships to flush out teams bunkered down in key POIs using legends Newcastle, Wattson and Caustic.
The bottom three weapons in the list include the Bocek Compund Bow (eighth) with 132 kills, the Mozambique Shotgun (ninth) with 85 kills, and the C.A.R SMG (tenth) with 74 kills.
What is surprising is that weapons previously popular in events such as the ALGS Split 2 Pro League did not break the top 10. This includes the Peacekeeper shotgun and the 30-30 Repeater marksman rifles, which, although used in the championship, did not result in as many eliminations.
