The Portuguese Esports Federation (FPDE) has renewed its partnership with MOONTON Games for the third consecutive year in line with the country’s Esports Vision 2030.
As part of the collaboration, the FPDE aims to grow Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) as a leading esport in Portugal in line with the Portugal Strategic Esports Plan – Vision 2030. This five-year plan aims to establish the country as a leader in the esports sector.
“Through this partnership, we’re supporting Portugal’s national agenda while showcasing how MLBB Esports can be a meaningful part of Portugal’s competitive landscape,” said Vladislav Samokha, the esports ecosystem lead for the larger EECA region at MOONTON Games.
“With FPDE’s professional and long-term approach to ecosystem development, we’re building a local ecosystem where talent and passion can thrive.”
The FPDE has announced that MLBB is set to return to the Portuguese Esports Cup 2026. This year’s edition is set to take place from June 4th to 7th in Fundão, Portugal. The esports tournament is set to feature 20 competitions across 16 gaming titles.
The total prize pool for the Portuguese Esports Cup 2026 is set to be €15,000 (~£13,015).
According to FPDE, the Portuguese Esports Cup 2025 generated 1.5m impressions and over 230,000 watch minutes. In a press release, the FPDE said that MLBB was “one of the standout titles.”
FPDE Targets Global Exposure for Portuguese Talent
Besides local tournaments, the FPDE wants to build Portugal’s presence on the international MLBB esports stage. The organisation said that in 2024 and 2025, it nominated a national team in multiple MLBB tournaments.
“This partnership with MOONTON Games represents a significant milestone for FPDE and demonstrates the viability of Portugal as a premium esports market,” said Pedro Honório da Silva, President of FPDE.
“Mobile Legends: Bang Bang has proven to be a community favourite, and we’re committed to providing world-class competitive opportunities for our players on the international stage.”
The commitment comes at a time when MLBB has been announced as a title in the inaugural edition of the Esports Nations Cup (ENC), a country-versus-country multi-title esports tournament.
In the IESF World Esports Championship 2025 – Europe Qualifier, Team Portugal missed out on making it to the World Esports Championship (WEC). The team placed fourth, losing to eventual qualifier champion Turkey in the semi-finals and to Romania in the third-place match.
