Valve’s closed alpha game, Deadlock, has clocked a 90% lower player count over the past several months, causing some to doubt the game’s success.

Manchester City release promotional video for esports academy programme

English football club Man City has released a promotional video to showcase its esports academy programme.

Developed in collaboration with City in the Community (CITC), the video highlights the initiative, which offers a BTEC qualification in esports.

Filmed with Oldham College, where the programme has been running since July 2024, the video gives a glimpse into the classroom, with students and instructors working on lessons tied to the course.

The curriculum includes units on health and wellbeing for esports players, esports broadcasting and analysis of titles used in esports tournaments.

Name of new James Bond game announced ahead of official reveal this week

IO Interactive has announced the official title of its upcoming James Bond game: 007 First Light.

The name reveal, confirmed on social media, comes almost five years after the Hitman developer first teased ‘Project 007’.

007 First Light is expected to explore Bond’s origin story and his journey to earning the 007 designation. IO’s announcement tweet used the hashtag #EarnTheNumber, suggesting the game will be a story about Bond becoming a 00 agent.

McLaren launch new motion simulator for sim racing

British racing giant McLaren has collaborated with Racing Unleashed to launch a new motion simulator for sim racing.

McLaren, who are leading both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships in Formula One, have a big presence in the sim racing scene.

The motorsport marque has joined up with Swiss sim racing hardware manufacturer Racing Unleashed to launch the simulator which is described as a ‘breakthrough in racing simulation technology’.

Built at Racing Unleashed’s facility in Maranello, Italy, it features a carbon fibre chassis, a replica McLaren Formula One steering wheel, and a Three Degrees of Freedom Motion (3DOF) system for enhanced realism.

UK developed horror game Phasmophobia set for movie adaptation

A movie adaptation of the horror video game Phasmophobia is officially in development.

British developer Kinetic Games has announced a partnership with Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster to produce a movie based on the online multiplayer ghost-hunting game.

Blumhouse Productions was also behind the movie adaptation of the popular horror video game Five Nights at Freddy’s. They are also behind other titles including M3GAN and The Black Phone.

Fortnite reports lowest player count in two years despite Star Wars collaboration

Popular third person shooter game, Fortnite, has struggled to get active players in the last month, recording the lowest average numbers in the past two years.

Despite the limited time Star Wars event this season, Epic Games reported that average player count per day has dropped below one million for the first time since 2023.

Fortnite popularity takes dip

According to the official Fortnite data site Fortnite.gg, the average amount of players per day dropped significantly in the last month to 994,711.
