Fortnite reports lowest player count in two years despite Star Wars collaboration

Popular third person shooter game, Fortnite, has struggled to get active players in the last month, recording the lowest average numbers in the past two years.

Despite the limited time Star Wars event this season, Epic Games reported that average player count per day has dropped below one million for the first time since 2023.

Fortnite popularity takes dip

According to the official Fortnite data site Fortnite.gg, the average amount of players per day dropped significantly in the last month to 994,711.

The Season 5 update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone is currently set to coincide with the Esports World Cup.

Season 4 debuted on May 29th, but faced heavy criticism due to unstable servers and the inclusion of unwanted ads.

The in-game battle pass timer states that Season 5 is scheduled to launch on August 7th.

This date aligns directly with the Call of Duty: Warzone tournament at the Esports World Cup.

Esports Charts boycott sparks debate after Russian Tekken LAN

Esports statistics provider and reporting platform Esports Charts boycott providing coverage for the 2025 BRICS Tournament. 

The Tekken 8 competition was organised by the Russian Esports Federation and took place in Moscow. As a Ukraine-born company, Esports Charts refuses coverage due to Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on June 2nd, Esports Charts announced their coverage boycott in a decisive post. 

The company stated that the Esports Charts boycott has been decided to “uphold ethical analytics.” They will not be tracking any of the tournament’s analytics or listing its existence on their site.

Ferrari reveals details for 2025 HP Esports Series

Ferrari has announced the return of its HP Esports Series for the 2025 season, offering sim racers a chance to join the prestigious esports team.

The 2024 edition saw 17,000 entrants, with British sim racer Luke Whitehouse emerging victorious.

Whitehouse claimed the title at the LAN finals held at Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi, and he now represents the Italian automotive company in various sim racing events.

The winner of the 2025 edition will be assessed for potential recruitment into the Scuderia Ferrari HP Esports team.

The mid-season decision was made by his British teammates Lewis “Hoody” O’Rourke and “MgClutch.” As a result, Gnaske has been left without a team for this Apex Legends Global Series split.

Popular Call of Duty League (CDL) player, Dylan ‘Envoy’ Hannon, has ripped into the CDL for lack of preparation ahead of the upcoming Championship Weekend event.

The LA Thieves player has raised concerns with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on a newer patch to the CDL Championship Weekend, meaning players aren’t able to practice ahead of the big event.

CDL comes under criticism

According to Envoy, the accounts used at the CDL are based on a patch from three months ago and the Championship Weekend will require players to use builds from Season 3 reloaded – which launched over a month ago on May 1st.

After the event’s conclusion, several women have both reported and evidenced harassment and sexual assault that occurred at TwitchCon Rotterdam. 

Its been awful. I’ve been catcalled so much, i have friends who had been cornered, followed, grabbed and harrassed by men, spiked drinks and innaproproate behaviour from not only locals but twitch streamers.

The cinematic introduces a significant new character in Mary Ade who is Phoenix’s sister. Mary is the game’s first non-playable character, and she plays a crucial role in Phoenix’s story.

Former Fnatic coach Jacob ‘mini’ Harris and Team Liquid content creator Connor ‘Sliggy’ Blomfield hosted a showmatch to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Valorant.

The event, called Semidecade Slugfest, was broadcast on Fnatic streamer Megan “megsoundslikeegg” Garner’s Twitch channel on Monday night.

Valorant was released on June 2nd, 2020, and both mini and Sliggy are prominent figures in the game’s esports community.

British Valorant professional, mini, recently retired from coaching after working with Fnatic from 2021 to 2024.

After enjoying six years of competitive Apex Legends, Complexity Gaming has officially withdrawn from the Apex Legends Global Series and associated esports leagues. 

Complexity first joined the Apex Legends esports ecosystem in 2019. Their investment in the scene was a great asset. However, it is being withdrawn ahead of this year’s controversial Esports World Cup tournament.
