EWC CS2 Talent announced: Top talent attending

The Esports World Cup has announced its talent lineup for the Counter-Strike 2 EWC tournament, including English talent, Freya Spiers, Alex ‘Machine’ Richardson, James Banks, Harry ‘JustHarry’ Richards, Henry ‘HenryG’ Greer, Hugo Byron, and Northern Irish caster Adam ‘Dinko’ Hawthorne.

EWC CS2’s event is notable for its attraction of talent, with many esports not featuring their usual suspects on broadcast. However, Counter-Strike’s open model, as opposed to the centralised models of Riot’s esports, for instance, seems to have led to a broadcast which will be extremely familiar for its fans.

CS2: Ancient and Shoots get nighttime map versions + more

The latest CS2 update includes Ancient and Shoots nighttime modes, now available in Casual and Deathmatch in Ancient’s case, and in Shoot’s Arms Race mode. The update is part of a substantial rework to Ancient and Shoots, with assets now running on the latest shaders.

Night isn’t new to Counter-Strike, of course. Modders have been taking CS’s favourite maps and setting them to nighttime since the dawn of 1.6. One such map, de_dustyaztec, was a nighttime version of Aztec.

Guild Esports is reportedly for sale on an insolvency market one year after DCB Sports acquisition

Only one year after being acquired by US investor DCB Sports, UK-based organisation Guild Esports has reportedly been listed for sale on an insolvency marketplace.

Since being floated on the London Stock Exchange in 2020, the first British esports company to do so, the company’s stock has fallen over 90% from its peak.

What went wrong at Guild Esports?

Guild Esports was founded in 2018. Famously, the organisation was at one point part-owned by footballer David Beckham.

Initially, Guild Esports looked as though it could tap into the budding esports market and gain support through its star part-owner.

EWC release Rocket League poster and it looks strangely familiar

The Esports World Cup has released a poster celebrating the start of its Rocket League tournament. Twitter/X users, however, quickly clocked the, let’s say, ‘inspiration’ for the poster. You could say they caught it Lightning fast…

🗣️ THIS IS ROCKET LEAGUE!

The poster, shared on the Esports World Cup’s secondary Twitter/X account. EWC Extra has a striking similarity to the promotional imagery used for the movie Cars 3 2017, which shows Lightning McQueen upside down with the tagline “from this moment on, everything will change.”

The colour of the upside-down car even matches Lightning McQueen’s iconic red and yellow colour combination, with the Rocket League car having red paint and yellow exhaust.

LPL English call for Anyone’s Legend player to be suspended following alleged online sexist harassment

LPL English, the unofficial co-streaming group, has called for further disciplinary action against Cui ‘Shanks’ Xiao-Jun following the alleged online harassment of a woman on a livestream.

As a result of the action, Shanks was fined three months of performance-related wages (bonuses), and later promised to reflect on his actions; however, LPL English have stated that the severity of the punishment does not align with historic precedents, arguing that a suspension from play would be more appropriate.

Faker records 700th LCK win as T1 continue strong form

T1’s Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok became the first player to reach 700 wins in the LCK, reaching the milestone before anyone else had reached 600.

The feat was achieved as T1 handily dispatched KT Rolster in 2-0 fashion, continuing the strong form T1 has shown in the summer split of LCK.

The Korean org has only dropped three games in their seven contests during the split, all to Gen.G as they ended Gen.G’s winning streak in the LCK with a 2-1 in their homecoming event, before losing to Gen.G 1-2 in Week 12 of the LCK in a series that cemented Gen.G as esports betting sites favourites for the World 2025 title.
