TL;DR

  • The second Marvel Tōkon beta will take place from December 5 – 7, 2025.
  • Spider-Man and Ghost Rider have been added to the roster, with the X-Mansion and Savage Lands being the new maps.
  • Those who were in the first closed beta will get invites to the second, and others can sign up through their PlayStation account.
  • Marvel Tōkon Fighting Souls is still aiming for a 2026 release window.

With more news coming out about Marvel Tōkon Fighting Souls, it seems that the fighting game community will be eating well in late 2025 and beyond in 2026. It’s a great time to be a tag fighter fan, given all the new IPs coming out, but this Marvel fighting game could lead the pack with Arc System Works behind it.

Invincible VS, 2XKO, and Tokon Fighting Souls are all tag fighters coming out within the next year based on massive, pre-established IPs. With the announcement of the second Marvel Tōkon Fighting Souls closed beta, all three of these games will offer some form of pre-release playability in late 2025. There’s never been a better time to compare the three to see which will be the most exciting for you.

Let’s have a look at the second Marvel Tōkon beta, what’s new compared to the first, and what the roadmap to release is looking like:

Marvel Tōkon closed beta 2 breakdown

As revealed in the recent State of Play, the second Marvel Tōkon beta is coming to PlayStation 5 on December 5, 11:59 PM PT to December 7, 11:59 PM PT, the first weekend of the month. Unfortunately for those without a PS5, the closed beta 2 is only for the PlayStation and will prioritise those who played in the first beta, or who tried to get in but didn’t get an invite.

Here’s how the three days of the Marvel Tōkon Fighting Souls closed beta 2 will work:

This beta will be significantly larger than the last, given that everyone in the last beta will get automatic invites, and there’s still room for others. With more content, it’s also clear that development is coming along neatly and that Marvel Tōkon will more than likely hit its 2026  release window.

Marvel Tōkon Closed Beta 2: What’s new?

Arc System Works has assured fans that it has taken the feedback from the last closed beta, making balance adjustments, visual enhancements, and user experience upgrades. Marvel Tōkon Fighting Souls is also further along in its development, so the game should be more refined for its second beta.

More interestingly, two additional characters are joining the Marvel Tōkon roster, bringing the number from six to eight. With Spider-Man and Ghost Rider joining the roster, here’s everyone you can play in the second beta:

  • Captain America
  • Ms. Marvel
  • Star-Lord
  • Storm
  • Doctor Doom
  • Ghost Rider (New)

It’s a relatively small roster for a tag fighter, although there’s more variety considering that Marvel Tōkon is 4v4, meaning that there are more team compositions compared to 2v2 and 3v3. On the other hand, that means that players need to pick half the roster for their team, but the roster will likely continue to grow as the launch draws closer.

There are also two new maps to go along with the additions to the roster: The X-Mansion, home of the X-Men, and Savage Land, a tropical, prehistoric region in Antarctica. The X-Mansion has drawn eyes in particular, featuring many X-Men characters in the background, like Gambit, Nightcrawler, Psylocke, Beast, Colossus, Xavier, and others.

As stated previously, those who already joined the first Marvel Tōkon closed beta will automatically be invited to the second one. A reminder email from PlayStation will be sent to those who played in the first closed beta within the coming weeks, so keep an eye out if you were one of those lucky few.

Those who were unable to get into the first Marvel Tōkon beta, but expressed interest by signing up have priority for invites for the second beta. They, too, have been instructed to keep an eye out for an invitational email from PlayStation.

That doesn’t mean those who missed out on the first closed beta don’t have a chance to get involved. While there is no Marvel Tōkon release date announcement yet, those looking to try the second beta and have a PS5 can sign up through their PlayStation account.

Conclusion

Arc System Works’ new Marvel fighting game has everything it needs to be a big hit: a bold aesthetic, an iconic cast of characters, and one of the best developers in the genre. There will be obvious comparisons between Tokon Fighting Souls and Marvel VS Capcom, but with how the closed betas are shaping up, it seems that fans will be appeased.

The additions of Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, Savage Lands, and especially the X-Mansion show the potential of this project. Not only can Marvel fans potentially play their favourite characters, but also in some of comics’ most iconic settings.

Those with PS5 consoles and at least a passing interest in the project should sign up to get involved. While not everyone will get into the Marvel Tōkon Fighting Souls closed beta 2, registering interest could have benefits in getting into an additional testing stage in the run-up to the game’s eventual 2026 release.
