TL;DR

  • At the time of writing, Gambit is the most recent hero released in Marvel Rivals.
  • Gambit is a Strategist hero, so his primary role is to support the team.
  • The complexity of Gambit’s kit can make him hard to get to grips with.
  • Gambit combines healing with buffing and purifying for allies, but he can also debuff enemies and deal significant damage.
  • Due to his versatility, Gambit has quickly become a popular hero.

Marvel Rivals has kicked off Season 5 with a brand-new Strategist hero: Cajun X-Men member and Rogue’s partner Remy LeBeau, known by his superhero alter ego Gambit. In Marvel Rivals, Gambit is a Strategist who uses a deck of cards to heal, buff allies, reduce enemy healing, deal damage and purify teammates. It can be tricky to juggle his cards and their abilities, but he can be very effective when you get the hang of his numerous skills.

We’re going to break down Gambit’s skill kit to see how his abilities are best used and how he fits into the Marvel Rivals Season 5 meta.

Gambit in Marvel Rivals

As mentioned, Gambit is a Strategist in Marvel Rivals, the equivalent of a support character. He and his fiancée, Rogue, are the two new Marvel Rivals Season 5 heroes, though Rogue won’t be coming to the game until Season 5.5.

In the lore of Marvel Rivals, Rogue and Gambit are in the middle of their wedding when the Timestream Entanglement – the cosmic event that caused the narrative of Marvel Rivals to begin – ruins the celebrations. With their wedding rings lost, Gambit plans to steal a contract from the Collector and exchange it for Chronovium so he can forge rare, cosmic wedding bands for himself and his wife to be.

Gambit is a four-star Strategist due to the complexity of his kit. Players need to manage his card decks effectively to make the most out of them. Gambit cards can heal allies and deal damage to enemies, but it’s the juggling act between his Healing Hearts card deck and Breaking Spades card deck that makes his kit more difficult to navigate.

As well as his card skills, Gambit also has his Cajun Charge skill, which allows him to dash forward with his bo staff. This skill can be followed up with a move called Big Easy Impact, which damages enemies and heals allies.

He also has a skill called Bayou Bash, where he slams his bo staff to the ground and creates an AOE shockwave that heals and damages. Gambit’s ultimate is a healing, speed boosting and purifying move that can attach to himself and multiple allies within his sight, making for a particularly powerful and potentially game-changing support ult. Let’s take a closer look at Gambit’s skills with a guide to his abilities.

Gambit’s Marvel Rivals meta impact

At the time of writing, Gambit is the most recent of the Marvel Rival heroes, having been released at the beginning of Season 5. Not much time has passed since Season 5 of Marvel Rivals began, so it’s a bit soon to be definite about his meta impact. That being said, Gambit has already proven himself to be a strong character who can be used flexibly.

Not only can he do plenty of healing, buffing and purifying, but he can also hold his own in a fight, which could lead to him becoming a Strategist/Duelist hybrid. Gambit has the potential to make a significant impact in the future meta of Marvel Rivals, and he has already started to make waves in the game.

Conclusion

Gambit is a fresh new take on the Strategist role in Marvel Rivals. He does what it felt like NetEase Games was trying to do with Ultron: create an effective hybrid of the Strategist and Duelist roles. While Ultron isn’t balanced enough to be that hero (not at the time of writing, anyway), Gambit certainly feels like he could be. The only issue is the complexity of his kit, which can be tricky for players to learn. Once his skills have been mastered, there is no doubt that Gambit could very quickly rise through the ranks to become an S-Tier Marvel Rivals Strategist.
