Camille in League of Legends – also known as The Steel Shadow – is primarily a Top Lane hero who has had some fluctuations in popularity over the years. Released in December 2016, Camille saw her highest spike in popularity in 2019. Despite some ups and downs, she hasn’t been able to recapture that level of popularity among players since then.

That being said, there is still a lot to enjoy about Camille as a LoL champion in terms of lore and gameplay. We’re going to dive deeper into Camille’s League role as well as her lore in the in-depth League of Legends narrative.

Who is Camille in League of Legends?

In League of Legends, Camille is – as mentioned – mostly used as a Top lane hero. She has an 86.2% popularity rate in the Top lane along with a 49.3% win rate. Her next most picked role is Support, with a 10% pick rate and a 48.2% win rate.

Camille’s full name is Camille Ferros, and she hails from the powerful and wealthy Piltover-based Ferros Clan. Camille was not always heavily augmented. Instead, she chose to embrace the augments to support her family legacy. As well as her iconic bladed legs, Camille also has a hextech heart and grapple-spindled hips, along with other smaller augments.

Camille’s in-game abilities revolve around these augmentations, which give her an advantage over her enemies and transform her into a living weapon.

There is nothing more important than family to Camille and Clan Ferros / Image credit: Riot Games and League of Legends

As mentioned, Camille was born into the prestigious Clan Ferros in Piltover. The family gained their wealth by harvesting rare crystals – later dubbed “hex crystals” – from native creatures to Shurima called the brackern. The family are known for their dedication to one another and their willingness to sacrifice. Their motto reads, “For family, will I give,” and Camille went on to embody this phrase.

Camille is the eldest living child of Clan Ferros, and she received only the best in terms of education and training. Her younger brother Stevan was set to become principle intelligencer for the clan, but his health issues led to Camille stepping into the role instead. This caused Stevan to become jealous of Camille’s skills.

Camille hoped to become augmented with hextech crystals after the death of her father, but she fell in love with a man named Hakim Naderi, a crystallographer who was chosen to be the lead artificer for Clan Ferros. With their love growing, Hakim grew more and more unwilling to replace Camille’s humanity – both physically and mentally – with hextech augments. After proposing marriage, he tried to convince Camille to run away with him, and Camille was tempted to do so.

However, after seeing Camille and Hakim’s love blossom, Stevan decided to intervene to ensure that Camille went through with the procedure. He staged an attack on himself and made sure that Camille witnessed it. Camille’s dedication to her brother and her family only intensified when she saw Stevan hurt, and her mind was made up. Camille went through with the procedure, but Hakim had abandoned their shared workspace by the time she woke up.

Her augmentations – particularly her hextech heart – meant that Camille would age much more slowly. Eventually, she realised her brother’s deception, and the familial bond was broken. Camille became the head of Clan Ferros, while one of her grandnieces took on Camille’s previous role as clan master. Camille handles both the public and private affairs of the clan, utilising her inhuman augmentations to make tough choices, offer protection, and ensure the longevity of her clan.

Camille’s in-game abilities

Camille is a fighter/assassin hero with a medium level of difficulty. She is highly mobile thanks to her leg augmentations, but she also excels at one-on-one duelling. Camille’s kit emphasises her assassin-like nature, as she is able to engage quickly, efficiently and with high bursts of damage. Let’s take a closer look at Camille’s LoL abilities.

Ability Name Key to Use In-Game Description
Adaptive Defenses No key. Passive ability.  Basic attacks on champions grant a shield equal to a percentage of Camille’s maximum health against their damage type (Physical or Magic) for a brief duration.
Precision Protocol Q Camille’s next attack deals bonus damage and grants bonus Move Speed. This spell can be recast for a short period of time, doing significantly increased bonus damage if Camille delays a period of time between the two attacks.
Tactical Sweep W Camille blasts in a cone after a delay, dealing damage. Enemies in the outer half are slowed and take extra damage, while also healing Camille.
Hookshot E Camille pulls herself to a wall, leaping off and knocking up enemy champions upon landing.
The Hextech Ultimatum R Camille dashes to target champion, anchoring them to the area. She also deals bonus magic damage to the target with her basic attacks.

When it comes to a Camille build that works well with these abilities, the Resolve and Inspiration rune paths are a strong choice. In Resolve, the best Camille runes to use are Grasp of the Undying, Second Wind, Shield Bash and Overgrowth. For Inspiration, opt for the Biscuit Delivery and Magical Footwear runes.

Conclusion

Despite Camille not being favoured as much in the current League of Legends meta, she is still an effective champion to play as when used appropriately. Keep practising with Camille to make the most out of her skill set, and you’ll be sure to start conquering Summoner’s Rift with her in no time.
