5 changes Valve needs to make to fix Largo in Dota 2

TL;DR

  • The easiest way to fix Largo would be through improving his spells, especially the early game presence of Catchy Lick.
  • Largo’s lack of crowd control is also quite apparent, and buffing Frogstomp’s area of effect or stun duration might remedy that.
  • Additionally, Valve could also tweak his ultimate, Amphibian Rhapsody, to make it easier to use and less punishing if rhythm stacks are lost.
  • Finally, a simple rework of his stat scaling and talent tree could give Largo the boost he needs to scale into the late game.

With the introduction of Patch 7.40 towards the end of December 2025, players were finally introduced to Largo, the Bard Frog. However, as it goes with most new heroes, Largo didn’t seem to find early success in his first week of release. And unfortunately, the hero’s low win rate of 46-48% is consistent across all skill brackets.

The reason for this is quite simple. Largo is a new hero and, unlike established dominant heroes, players have not yet developed an optimal playstyle for him. His ultimate ability has the mechanics of a rhythm game that can also be easily punished if the player is inexperienced. Largo’s abilities also deserve some buffs because they seem quite mediocre for what they do.

So, how do we fix Largo in Dota 2? Here are a few recommendations that we feel are the best changes for Largo, the Bard Frog.

How Valve can fix Largo in Dota 2

In his current iteration, Largo feels like a jack-of-all-trades healing/buff hero who can do a little of everything, but falls short of greatness in every aspect. Despite the recent Dota 2 updates buffing Largo, we feel like they’re still not enough, and these tweaks might help balance him out.

1. Buffs to Catchy Lick

Catchy Lick is Largo’s first ability and his bread-and-butter skill in the laning phase. While the damage numbers and healing on this skill are fine, the utility and setup it provides are quite mediocre by comparison. Pulling an ally for half the distance of a Force Staff can be quite clutch in certain situations, but the distance is reduced even more when Largo pulls an enemy.

Simple buffs to Catchy Lick could include a cooldown decrease or even a range/distance increase on the repositioning effect. Helping him set up a fight better could be one of the fixes Largo needs in Dota 2.

2. Improve his crowd control ability

In its current iteration, Frogstomp is quite a mediocre crowd control skill. The area of effect is small, the stun duration is too short, and the damage numbers are quite underwhelming. This skill can be countered by a simple Force Staff, and the duration between ministuns is enough for cores to use their Black King Bars to escape.

We can think of two easy fixes for this. Increasing the area of Frogstomp or improving its stun duration so enemies will stay in its radius for longer are the best changes for Largo.

3. Simplify the rhythm minigame

There is no denying that Amphibian Rhapsody is one of the more creative skills introduced in the latest Dota 2 update. However, creative doesn’t always mean easy to execute, and Largo’s ultimate is the perfect example of that. Not only does it get disabled by silences and stuns, but the buffs it provides (spell amplification, movement speed, healing) also deteriorate over time.

The longer Largo fails to keep the rhythm going flawlessly, the more his utility in teamfights diminishes. This hits especially hard since he can’t use any other spells during Amphibian Rhapsody. An easy fix for this would be to reduce the diminishing returns for missing a beat or allow Largo to pause the beat when he’s disabled.

4. Adjust stat scaling

Largo’s base stats are quite nice by default. His high strength gain (3.6) gives him a great boost to his health, and his above-average intelligence gain (2.4) gives him a fair boost to his mana with every level up. Largo’s agility gain (1.3) is quite low, giving him low armour to balance him out. However, buffing one specific stat could be a game-changer for the hero.

As a melee support hero, buffing his movement speed would be one of the best changes for Largo. Not only do his spells require proper positioning to be effective, but he also needs the extra speed to trade efficiently with enemy supports during the laning phase.

5. Rework the talent tree

The final change that we can think of would be reworking Largo’s talent tree. As of right now, Largo’s talents revolve around number increases to all of his spells. These talents can be tweaked by adding more utility to his abilities instead, like increasing the range of Catchy Lick’s pull or reducing Amphibian Rhapsody’s penalties for missing a beat.

The best changes for Largo would include having a talent tree that scales properly with levels, making the hero a noticeable threat at all stages of the game.

Conclusion

Largo is, conceptually, one of the more creative and fun heroes introduced in the last few years. The hero clearly has a lot of potential to be one of the best healers in the game, even boasting high healing numbers in his post-game stats. We have full faith that by the time Largo is introduced to the pro scene via implementation through Captain’s Mode, Valve would have fixed most, if not all, of his current shortcomings.
