Epic Games has expanded its anti-cheat measures used to prevent hackers from disrupting casual and competitive Fortnite matches.

Beginning on February 19th, PC players must use Secure Boot, TPM, and IOMMU to ensure a level playing field.

Unveiled on February 10th, the new measures must be active for all PC players competing in the battle royale title’s tournaments. IOMMU assists the operating system in controlling how hardware accesses system memory. While activated, it protects Fortnite’s memory from being accessed by illegal cheat hardware.

Epic Games follows the likes of Activision in expanding anti-cheat measures for its esports titles. In September 2025, Call of Duty’s publisher implemented TPM and Secure Boot for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Call of Duty: Warzone. In a recent update, Activision claims the updates have significantly improved Black Ops 7 Ranked Play, with approximately 99% of matches being free from cheaters.

In addition to the new system requirements for PC players, Epic Games has continued taking legal action against rulebreakers. On February 6th, it took action against a player using cheats to conduct DDoS attacks against Fortnite servers. The cheater received a lifetime ban from all Epic Games titles and its services.

Cheating In Esports

In the past 12 months, Epic Games has remained committed to combating cheaters within the Fortnite esports scene. In February 2025, retired player Morgan ‘RepulseGod’ Bamford received a ban as a result of cheating in the Fortnite Championship Series (FNCS) in 2023.

Outside of Fortnite, cheating remains an issue in several esports titles. In October 2025, the Champion of Champions Tour (CCT) issued bans to several players competing in CCT Europe Season 3. Each of the seven players involved received a two-year ban from all CCT-operated tournaments.

The implementation of new anti-cheat measures will maintain a level playing field in online Fortnite tournaments, in addition to preventing hackers from impacting the action.
