CS2 latest patch notes: Deathmatch, graphics and audio updated

The latest CS2 patch notes have launched in-game, with major updates coming to Deathmatch as well as minor bug fixes in graphics and audio.

Counter Strike’s patch went live on May 16th with the changes already enhancing gameplay for players.

CS2 Patch Notes

Gameplay

  • Deathmatch game mode now allows for unbalanced teams

Graphics

  • Molotov and incendiary fire no longer visible through the AK-47 view model
  • Resolved an issue where stickers covering a gap on the front grip of the AK-47 weren’t lit correctly
  • Fixed issues with inventory item icons that didn’t render correctly when aiming down a scope

Audio

  • Shortened front end of AK-47 firing audio
  • Reduced delay on body shot impact sounds
  • Body shot impact sounds from the attackers perspective will momentarily reduce the volume of weapon fire 

A fresh look for Deathmatch in CS2 patch notes

The biggest change to CS2 in the update is without a doubt the unbalanced teams in Deathmatch mode.

Esports students launch Pokemon club to boost mental health at university

Two university esports students have launched a Pokemon club to address loneliness and improve mental health among their peers.

The program was initially created and aimed toward esports students at Barnsley College University Centre.

However, it has grown in popularity across the campus, bringing in students from various courses who share a love for Pokemon.

The Pokemon Club was spearheaded by Joshua Ward, who is a BA (Hons) Esports Education: Coaching, Health, and Wellbeing Top-Up student, together with another co-organiser.

Valorant Mobile leak suggests exclusive features including replays and an in-app TikTok feed

The upcoming mobile game will have a lot of exciting features exclusive to its PC counterpart, according to a recent leak.

Around a month ago, Riot Games confirmed that Valorant Mobile is real and is being made by Lightspeed, the same developers who created PUBG Mobile.

However, the mobile iteration of the first-person shooter will only be available in China at first, with a worldwide release planned for a currently unknown date.

Morecambe Winter Gardens set to host first ever esports event this summer

Esports is coming to Morecambe’s Winter Gardens, with the location hosting a competitive gaming and cosplay event in summer for the first time.

The Gardens have never hosted an event like this in the past and the first of its kind day should further grow the esports scene in the UK to an even wider audience.

When is the Winter Gardens esports event?

The event at Morecambe’s Winter Gardens will take place on May 24th from midday, with the afternoon of gaming expected to conclude at around 4pm.

Team Heretics lost to Fnatic yesterday evening to once again finish in second place at a major tournament.

Esports News UK interviewed the British coaching duo of Neil ‘neilzinho’ Finlay and Brandon William ‘weber’ Weber after their Upper Bracket Final match on Friday, May 16th.

This was before their subsequent matches against Team Liquid and Fnatic in the VCT EMEA Playoffs over the last weekend.

They shared their thoughts on what keeps Valorant certified fresh, working as one, and their attitude toward Masters Toronto.

Blast and Ubisoft reveal R6 Major and Six Invitational destinations

The next two destinations in the Blast Rainbow Six Siege (R6) esports calendar have been revealed, ahead of the 2025 Fall Major and Six Invitational.

Game publisher Ubisoft and tournament organiser Blast, have chosen Munich, Germany, to host the Fall Major this November.

Meanwhile, the Six Invitational will return to Paris, France, next February.

The Blast R6 Major in Munich will be hosted at the BMW Park Arena and will be the city’s first Rainbow Six esports event.

One insensitive tweet has cost Team Liquid its lucrative multi-year partnership with Honda

Honda has announced it has terminated its multi-year partnership with esports organisation Team Liquid over an offensive tweet by one of its players.

Lucas “DiasLucas” Dias joined Liquid’s Rainbow Six Siege roster just under a month ago but in that time has cost the organisation one of its biggest sponsorships and been fined four months worth of wages as punishment.

Team Liquid had been sponsored by Honda since 2019 and expanded that partnership in 2022 to sell the naming rights to the organisation’s League of Legends teams, including the starting roster who became the first-ever LTA champions earlier this year.

British player ApparentlyJack wins Rocket League tournament with Dignitas team

British Rocket League player Jack ‘ApparentlyJack’ Benton was part of the winning Dignitas team, which emerged victorious at the Raleigh Major: Europe Open 5 tournament in the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS).

Dignitas defeated Karmine Corp 4-3 in a best-of-seven final, earning their first regional championship of the 2025 RLCS season.

Following the victory, he wrote on X: “WE DID IT LETS GOOOOO REGIONAL CHAMPIONS I DON’T BELIEVE IT.”

He added: “What a run all the way from losing our first series of the tournament to now, amazing composure, amazing plays, what a team.

Fnatic stupefy Team Heretics to be crowned VCT 2025 EMEA Stage 1 champions

UK-based esports organisation, Fnatic, swept aside Team Heretics in yesterday’s Grand Finals to win the Valorant Champions Tour 2025: EMEA Stage 1.

The team have successfully dominated the Playoffs to close out Stage 1 as the number one seed going into VCT Masters Toronto.

The win yesterday evening also marks the first domestic title for Austin ‘crashies’ Roberts alongside rookie Kajetan ‘kaajak’ Haremski.

‘Employability and professional practice’ a focus for new Bournemouth Uni esports and streaming degree: ‘Freelancing, tax returns, and contracts are really important and often forgotten by other unis’

Bournemouth University’s upcoming BSc (Hons) Esports Digital Technologies degree will have a specific focus on helping students gain work as independent freelancers and streamers.

The degree, which launches in September 2025, will cover ‘digital content creation, live streaming, event management, athlete management, entrepreneurship, data analytics and professional practice’.

Students will be given an understanding of freelancing, contracts and tax returns, in a bid to help navigate the contract issues often seen in esports.
