British player ApparentlyJack wins Rocket League tournament with Dignitas team

British Rocket League player Jack ‘ApparentlyJack’ Benton was part of the winning Dignitas team, which emerged victorious at the Raleigh Major: Europe Open 5 tournament in the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS).

Dignitas defeated Karmine Corp 4-3 in a best-of-seven final, earning their first regional championship of the 2025 RLCS season.

Following the victory, he wrote on X: “WE DID IT LETS GOOOOO REGIONAL CHAMPIONS I DON’T BELIEVE IT.”

He added: “What a run all the way from losing our first series of the tournament to now, amazing composure, amazing plays, what a team.

Fnatic stupefy Team Heretics to be crowned VCT 2025 EMEA Stage 1 champions

UK-based esports organisation, Fnatic, swept aside Team Heretics in yesterday’s Grand Finals to win the Valorant Champions Tour 2025: EMEA Stage 1.

The team have successfully dominated the Playoffs to close out Stage 1 as the number one seed going into VCT Masters Toronto.

The win yesterday evening also marks the first domestic title for Austin ‘crashies’ Roberts alongside rookie Kajetan ‘kaajak’ Haremski.

‘Employability and professional practice’ a focus for new Bournemouth Uni esports and streaming degree: ‘Freelancing, tax returns, and contracts are really important and often forgotten by other unis’

Bournemouth University’s upcoming BSc (Hons) Esports Digital Technologies degree will have a specific focus on helping students gain work as independent freelancers and streamers.

The degree, which launches in September 2025, will cover ‘digital content creation, live streaming, event management, athlete management, entrepreneurship, data analytics and professional practice’.

Students will be given an understanding of freelancing, contracts and tax returns, in a bid to help navigate the contract issues often seen in esports.

Naraka: Bladepoint to be part of 2025 Esports World Cup Festival

It has been revealed that Naraka: Bladepoint will host an esports tournament at the 2025 Esports World Cup Festival.

The martial arts-inspired battle royale will host its mid-season championship as part of the festival – that runs alongside the Esports World Cup.

It was confirmed by the Esports World Cup’s official X account, which wrote: “Step into the true art of sword fighting with the Naraka tournament. Part of the #EWC Festival.”

There will be solos and trios tournaments which take place on August 22nd and 23rd, 2025, respectively.

This year’s Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) is coming up sooner than you think, as the full schedule for this year’s event has been confirmed.

SGDQ is one of Games Done Quick’s annual events which see week-long, 24/7 video game marathons streamed online to raise money for charity.

Each event sees highly-skilled gamers take turns to speedrun — completing video games as quickly as possible — with donation incentives set up for viewers to encourage more fundraising.

Nintendo has ordered a cease and desist on the Smash Together app, which was in development with the open beta expected to be released on May 15th.

The app has become the latest Smash product to be cancelled just days before its intended release date.

The app ‘Smash Together’ had been in development for nearly a year, with the product announced on June 7th, 2024.

Professional, competitive Google Maps will be an Esports World Cup event with a GeoGuessr tournament recently announced.

This year’s record-breaking $70m+ (£52.7m+) Esports World Cup will feature 40 esports clubs competing across 24 of the biggest esports titles, including League of Legends, DOTA 2, Counter-Strike 2, Call of Duty Black Ops 6, and Valorant.

Chess was a surprising enough addition to the event but now GeoGuessr has also been confirmed for this year’s tournament.

British involvement as Call of Duty Challengers team seeks funding for Dallas Open

British-based social media account The Pit, which is dedicated to European Call of Duty esports, has launched a fundraising campaign for an all-French team competing in Call of Duty Challengers.

The French outfit, comprising players Melko, Mighty, Nadox and Syqz, are due to compete at the Dallas Open, as part of DreamHack Dallas, from May 23rd to 25th.

However, they faced a setback when a deal with an unnamed brand collapsed, leaving them short of funds for the event.

Three British developers have been nominated for Best Game at the Develop: Star Awards 2025.

Held at the gaming developer convention, Develop: Brighton, the Develop: Star Awards recognise the very best games and talent within the industry.

Among the nominees for Best Game are Atomfall developer, Rebellion. Having only been released recently, this marks the start of Atomfall’s awards season campaign.
