TL;DR

  • Fortnite Sidekicks are a new cosmetic type that evolves the Pet Back Bling cosmetic.
  • Sidekicks will accompany the player during games in supported modes, such as Battle Royale.
  • Players can customize their Sidekicks, but they can only do so once.
  • Some elements that can be customized include coat patterns and eye colors, though customization options vary for each different Sidekick.
  • As of right now – early November 2025 – the only Sidekick that isn’t for sale in the shop is Peels the banana dog, who is part of the mini season battle pass.

Sidekicks are a new cosmetic item introduced in the latest Fortnite mini-season. These adorable companions are an expansion on the previous Pets Back Bling cosmetics from the earlier Fortnite seasons.

Some have been critical of the new Sidekicks, arguing they are one of the more egregious cash grab microtransactions that Epic Games has released. While this is a fair argument, there is also a lot to enjoy about Sidekicks, especially for those who like the idea of an in-game companion.

We’re going to dive deeper into everything you need to know about Fortnite Sidekicks, including the Sidekicks that have been confirmed to be coming soon and how to get them.

What are Sidekicks in Fortnite?

Fortnite Pet characters

As mentioned, Sidekicks are a purely cosmetic item released alongside Fortnite’s new season (the Chapter 6, mini season 2 themed around The Simpsons). Sidekicks expand on the previous Pets cosmetics, which were introduced in Chapter 1, Season 6. Pets are a Back Bling cosmetic, but Sidekicks have evolved into fully fledged friends who will accompany you into battle in the supported game modes.

As with the original Pets, Sidekicks are entirely cosmetic and offer no gameplay advantages. They can’t fight, and they can’t be seen by the enemy, but they can be seen by teammates when playing with others. Players can pet their own Sidekicks, but Sidekicks also respond to certain situations, the world around them, and the player’s actions. They dance alongside you if you use a dance emote, and they also have their own unique emotes. They will also be sad if you are knocked down during a game. Sidekicks are immune to damage, which isn’t too surprising, as they can’t be seen by enemy players.

Another big difference between the original Pets and Sidekicks is customization. Each Sidekick has unique features that can be customized. For example, the only Sidekick in the game at the time of writing is the banana dog Peels. Peels’s customization options are a little different to the dog companions who will be entering the in-game store soon.

Rather than changing Peels’s coat color or pattern, players can instead change his ripeness to underripe, regularly ripe, or overripe, since he is a banana. This is a great example of the little changes that can be made to each Sidekick, depending on what kind of creature they are. Players can also change the name of their companion, so they don’t have to keep the default name (my Peels is now called Nanners, for example).

One of the issues that some have taken with the customization element of Fortnite Sidekicks is that players can only customize their companion once. When they have selected what they want their companion to look like, this will be locked in and cannot be changed. If players want a different version of the same Sidekick, they will have to purchase it again, which has led to discourse surrounding the monetization elements of the companions.

Only one Fortnite Sidekick launched with the update at the beginning of November. However, more have since been added in an update in the middle of the month, as the new Fortnite Season now has access to more. Here are all of the Sidekicks available now, including some rumored upcoming ones, too.

  • Bonesy: A Golden Retriever/ German Shepherd-like dog who was one of the first Pet Back Blings introduced back in the OG Fortnite.
  • Cuddle Team Jr: A small pink bear and a mini version of the Cuddle Team Leader skin.
  • Doggo Jr: A pug dog and a mini version of the humanoid pug Doggo skin
  • Flopsticks: A fish in a bubble and a mini version of the humanoid fish Fishstick skin
  • Lil’ Raptor: A baby Velociraptor.
  • Spike: A Doberman dog and a mini version of the Duke humanoid Doberman skin.

There have also been a few leaks from the Fortnite community that hint at what Sidekicks could be coming in the future. On X, prominent Fortnite leaker @SpushFNBR stated that Krypto the dog from the 2025 Superman film will become a Sidekick, as will certain Disney characters, such as Grogu (Baby Yoda) from Star Wars

Another leaker – @itsmeleaky – added that some of the critters that will be added as Sidekicks in the future include pigs and dragons. This is speculation on our part, as nothing is confirmed until Epic Games says so. However, it does seem likely that there will be a lot more Sidekicks from a range of properties – along with unique, original creatures – coming in the future.

How to get Fortnite sidekicks

Playful Fortnite characters such as Banana and Banana dog
Sidekicks can be bought with V-Bucks. Peels the banana dog can be obtained by buying the Chapter 6 mini season battle pass / Image credit: Epic Games

Peels is available in the Simpsons mini-season battle pass. He is the first reward that players unlock when purchasing the battle pass for 1,000 V-Bucks. Other Sidekicks are now available in the copy, and their respective cost is as follows:

  • Bonesy: 1,200 V-Bucks (Bonesy can also be obtained for free by players who already own the Bonesy Back Bling Pet cosmetic).
  • Cuddle Team Jr: 1,500 V-Bucks
  • Doggo Jr: 1,500 V-Bucks
  • Flopsticks: 1,500 V-Bucks
  • Lil’ Raptor: 1,200 V-Bucks
  • Spike: 1,200 V-Bucks

As previously mentioned, these prices have caused a bit of a stir. 1,200 V-Bucks amounts to just under $10, while 1,500 is a little under $14. This is a fair amount of money for a cosmetic that can’t even be seen by most players. It hasn’t been confirmed whether this will be a regular price for the Sidekicks, or whether future ones will be cheaper or more expensive.

Hopefully, there will be more Sidekicks who aren’t as costly, like Peels, who can be bought in the battle pass for 1,000 V-Bucks. There may even be Sidekicks who can be earned by completing challenges rather than spending actual money. For now, it’s unclear how Epic will proceed in terms of monetizing the Sidekick cosmetics.

Conclusion

That’s everything we know so far about Fortnite Sidekicks and how to get them. For now, the Sidekicks are confined to the current battle pass – with Peels – and the in-game shop. There is no doubt that the price of Sidekicks is somewhat high, especially since the upcoming prices are more expensive than some of the regular skins in the game. However, the Sidekicks are certainly a charming cosmetic type. They might not be for everyone, but there is sure to be a market for them, especially if various cute critters from established properties end up becoming Fortnite Sidekicks in the future.
