Esports tournament platform FACEIT has revealed an updated format to the ESEA League, an online Counter-Strike 2 tournament.

As a result of the changes, the tournament aligns with Valve’s Ranked Tournament Operations Requirements, enabling teams and players to earn points contributing to the Valve Regional Standings (VRS).

Starting with ESEA League Season 56, the tournament returns as a direct route to professional competition. In addition to players earning VRS points, amateur teams can earn qualification for the ESL Pro League, one of the first-person shooter title’s longest-standing esports events.

For Europe, Open 10, Entry, Intermediate, Main, and Advanced will operate as VRS-ranked competitions, with matches covered by Counter-Strike publication HLTV awarding points. For North America, Open 9 and 10 to Advanced will award points.

The top four teams from each division will qualify for a tiered finals bracket, with the top two from Europe and North America receiving wildcard invitations to compete in an ESL Challenger League Cup for a chance to make it into the Pro League.

In addition to the new format, FACEIT has redistributed the prize pool to give players a greater chance of winning a share of the $76,600 (~£57,911) up for grabs.

ESEA League Roster Change Rules

To adhere to VRS requirements, FACEIT has introduced a new roster stability rule. Teams competing in Intermediate, Main, and Advanced must use three players from Season 55’s lineup. The roster change rule mirrors VRS requirements, where teams must keep three of the five players who receive an invite to a tournament.

Registration for ESEA League Season 56 begins on December 5th and ends on January 7th, 2026. Regular-season matches kick off on January 12th, with the finals running from March 23rd to 29th.

The rule changes to make the ESEA League a VRS-ranked tournament make it an excellent opportunity for teams to earn points to climb the ladder and qualify for ESL Pro League for a chance to compete against Counter-Strike’s biggest names.
