Irish esports organisation WYLDE qualifies for BLAST Europe Stage 1 in Rainbow Six: Siege

WYLDE marks its return to the highest echelon of Rainbow Six: Siege esports as they qualified for the BLAST Europe Middle East and North Africa (Europe MENA) League 2025 – Stage 1, through the Challenger Series.

The team hasn’t competed in tier 1 Rainbow Six: Siege esports since the merger of the European and MENA regions.

This was due to the organisation opting to develop a rookie roster that could qualify for the main European league.

Esports Wales heads to HADO World Cup 2025 held on bespoke barge in Shanghai

Welsh national esports body, Esports Wales, will send its HADO team to compete in Shanghai, China, for the HADO World Cup 2025 on May 24th 2025. 

Alongside Scottish Esports and Esports England, the teams will compete for the grand prize of over £260,000 (¥2,500,000), with second place set to receive over £125,000 (¥1,200,000) and third place earning over £80,000 (¥800,000).

On top of the main prizes, there will be special rewards for the Golden Energy Award (individual) and Best Performance Award (team).

Microsoft has announced a huge development for the Gears of War series, with the currently Xbox exclusive game set to be released on multiple platforms.

Gears of War is being remastered for an August release date when the game will be made available on PC and Playstation for the first time as well as Xbox.

The news of Gears of War making its debut on Playstation and PC comes just days after Microsoft announced a price surge in Xbox products.

Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) has dropped its second official trailer this week. However, the game is still not expected to be released for at least another year.

Rockstar Games has teased a second look at GTA 6 gameplay with fans getting a better look at some of the new characters.

The trailer gave fans their first insight into two new main characters in the game, with ‘Lucia Caminos’ and ‘Jason Duvall’ the main protagonists for the story mode.

British games body Ukie has called upon the government to offer stronger backing for the UK’s gaming industry or risk losing out on £500 million.

Ukie’s new Press Start on Growth campaign states that without proper investment, the British games sector risks losing world-class talent, innovative ideas, and exciting IPs to better-backed competitors in other countries.

The gaming industry is booming in the UK as it has doubled in size since 2013, with £7.6 billion spent by consumers in 2024.

Faker imitation sparks political controversy with a formal protest by T1

Esports legend Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok has recently been pulled into the upcoming South Korean presidential election, after his iconic pose was used in promotional material by the candidate Kim Moon-soo of the People Power Party (PPP).

T1 responds to the use of Faker’s image

The promotional post came out across the presidential candidate’s social media, with candidate Kim recreating Faker’s ‘silence’ pose. 

On Facebook, they went even further by using an image of Faker performing the same pose, using a line previously used by the esports legend, and tagging him directly in hashtags.

British Counter-Strike player William “mezii” Merriman, alongside Team Vitality, took home the trophy at the BLAST Rivals Spring 2025 finals. This only solidifies their title as the best team in the world right now, after also securing the ESL Grand Slam title just a few weeks ago and BLAST Open Spring 2025 earlier this year.

Team Vitality eased through the Group Stage of BLAST Rivals Spring after defeating Wildcard and MOUZ and securing their spot in the semifinals.

Ninjas in Pyjamas players and staff contributed to over £7m raised in Red Bull Wings For Life World Run

Swedish esports organisation Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP) took part in the Red Bull Wings For Life 2025 World Run on Sunday May 4, a charity event which raised an astonishing €8.6 million (£7.3m) for spinal cord injury research.

The charity event asked runners to start running at the exact same time, regardless of timezone, for 30 minutes before a virtual car catcher begins to race them. Each person’s race finished once they hit their personal target or the virtual car caught them, whichever happened first.

Tundra has withdrawn from DreamLeague season 26, with the team looking to get some well deserved rest ahead of the Esports World Cup 2025. 

The Esports organisation has already guaranteed a spot the World Cup this year and with no real reason to head to DreamLeague season 26, they decided it would be best to let players rest during a busy schedule.
