Faker imitation sparks political controversy with a formal protest by T1

Esports legend Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok has recently been pulled into the upcoming South Korean presidential election, after his iconic pose was used in promotional material by the candidate Kim Moon-soo of the People Power Party (PPP).

T1 responds to the use of Faker’s image

The promotional post came out across the presidential candidate’s social media, with candidate Kim recreating Faker’s ‘silence’ pose. 

On Facebook, they went even further by using an image of Faker performing the same pose, using a line previously used by the esports legend, and tagging him directly in hashtags.

British Counter-Strike player William “mezii” Merriman, alongside Team Vitality, took home the trophy at the BLAST Rivals Spring 2025 finals. This only solidifies their title as the best team in the world right now, after also securing the ESL Grand Slam title just a few weeks ago and BLAST Open Spring 2025 earlier this year.

Team Vitality eased through the Group Stage of BLAST Rivals Spring after defeating Wildcard and MOUZ and securing their spot in the semifinals.

Ninjas in Pyjamas players and staff contributed to over £7m raised in Red Bull Wings For Life World Run

Swedish esports organisation Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP) took part in the Red Bull Wings For Life 2025 World Run on Sunday May 4, a charity event which raised an astonishing €8.6 million (£7.3m) for spinal cord injury research.

The charity event asked runners to start running at the exact same time, regardless of timezone, for 30 minutes before a virtual car catcher begins to race them. Each person’s race finished once they hit their personal target or the virtual car caught them, whichever happened first.

Tundra has withdrawn from DreamLeague season 26, with the team looking to get some well deserved rest ahead of the Esports World Cup 2025. 

The Esports organisation has already guaranteed a spot the World Cup this year and with no real reason to head to DreamLeague season 26, they decided it would be best to let players rest during a busy schedule.

University of Staffordshire to host UKEL 4 Nations Spring 2025 Grand Final

The UK Esports League (UKEL) 4 Nations Spring 2025 Division 1 Grand Final will take place at the University of Staffordshire.

It will get underway on Saturday June 21st at the university’s Stoke-on-Trent campus.

The UKEL finals will take place at the university’s broadcast studio, which opened a year ago as part of the University of Staffordshire’s revamped £2.7m esports facilities.

The UKEL made the announcement on X last week.

Charlton Athletic FC open Cyberlabs Gaming Box inside The Valley football stadium

London football club Charlton Athletic, currently competing in the League One Playoffs, have officially opened their Cyberlabs Gaming Box inside the team’s home ground, The Valley, and have begun taking bookings.

Announced earlier this year, the dedicated gaming and entertainment space is located in the Alan Curbishley Stand and faces the pitch, allowing for “unique gaming and football experiences.” The renovated box space has been kitted out with gaming equipment provided by partners, including PS5s, multiple screens, the PSVR2, two UNEVN PC Gaming desks, X Rocker chairs, Corsair peripherals, and a X3000i BenQ projector.

Team Falcons Vega dethrone G2 Gozen at Red Bull Instalock 2025

Team Falcons Vega claimed the Red Bull Instalock 2025 championship title today, defeating defending Red Bull Instalock 2024 champions G2 Gozen in a nail-biting 3-2 Grand Final. 

Despite losing to Germany’s G2 Gozen in the group stage (0-2), Saudi Arabia’s Falcons Vega stormed through the lower bracket, defeating America’s FlyQuest RED 2-0 to reclaim a spot in the finals.

London-based org GiantX also took part, with FlyQuest and Falcons making their Red Bull Instalock debuts.
